Originally a weblog (blog) application, WordPress today is the most used content management system (CMS) in the world.
Here at UVM, our multisite installation is focused on its original purpose -- blogging. When you create a post on your blog, you add to the list of previous post in reverse chronological order (newest on top, older as you continue down the page). The content can be as simple as a few words or as rich as an article of images, links, lists and text. Best of all, it requires very little training and no knowledge of web structure or code.
UVM's multisite WordPress offers many features that make it very approachable for users:
Wordpress sites are based on NetIDs. Your personal blog awaits you! Start by visiting https://blog.uvm.edu where you will find links for authenticating to and self creation of additional blogs.
WordPress is an excellent option for simple, periodic content (e.g. news, events, notes, how-tos, commentary and opinions), but it's not a "website" with a full user experience or advanced web applications. UVM offers other services for advanced web needs including content management based on the Drupal platform and even a full website building platform called SILK.
Before committing to using WordPress, consider the functions you may need as your content grows.
