Connecting computers to copiers or printers can be quite a task. Using print queues and the device publishing services of Active Directory, we reduce the complexity for users to connect their PCs to network connected printing devices.
Print queues are a special type of shared device available on our Microsoft Windows infrastructure. They contain the proper drivers and link to the copier/printer over the network. Once created, it reduces the many steps required to a relatively simple lookup (usually by name) and double-click to install.
The first step to making a copier or printer available via network is establishing a network address (IP address) for it. This is handled by emailing dhcp@uvm.edu. We also accept print queue creation requests there as well.
We'll need to know the make and model of your new printer, the IP address it obtained automatically from the dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) when it connected to the network, and often a bit more info obtained from the device's configuration page. This page is either printed automatically when powered on, or manually by you using instructions often found in the first few pages of the manual.
This service is not intended for Apple computers. We recommend manual installation, configuration and direct IP connection to the copier or printer for macOS devices.
