DATA SECURITY

Connect to virtual Windows computers from anywhere in the world, from a single customized machine to one of possible hundreds of lab-configured clones.
UVM's virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) provides remotely accessible Windows computers for individuals or full computer labs. Connections can be made from personal computers using the VMware Horizon Client, or using specialized hardware "zero clients" for kiosks or labs. Virtual desktops may be configured with advanced graphic capabilities for specialized use cases such as graphic design, CAD, or spatial analysis.
For computer lab managers, VDI provides ease of deployment and management over traditional physical machines. Changes such as installing a new application, defining a system policy or rebuilding a machine from scratch can all be implemented remotely and across an entire fleet of virtual desktops. Zero client hardware's flexibility allows them to be repurposed immediately by simply pointing them to a different virtual desktop pool, and their slim hardware profile can last for years without needing replacement.
Contact vdi-admins@uvm.edu for information on creating a VDI environment that meets your needs.
Management of VDI resources requires special account credentials and access privileges.
