PHP on zoo.uvm.edu is Ending

PHP hosted directly on zoo is limited, old, and difficult to maintain. 

ETS ended support for PHP located directly on zoo on January 9. If you have completely migrated to Drupal and all .php files in your account are legacy code, you are all set. If your site solely uses .php files for legacy Magicscript template support, you are ok for now. Other PHP sites would see improved performance, security, and deployment flexibility from a migration to UVM’s silk hosting service. 

ETS will provision silk hosting sites upon request and can provide guidance in moving your site. Migration of an existing site often requires few code changes, and URLs can generally stay the same, if desired. You can find an overview of zoo-to-silk migration in the Silk User Manual. Those requiring a short time extension should contact SAA while preparing their migration.

ETS will end all support for PHP 5.3 at the end of the 2019 spring semester. UVM’s silk hosting service offers multiple versions of PHP, but 5.3 has not been supported by its own developers since 2014 and its presence prevents the upgrade of other services. All zoo sites use PHP 5.3, and will need to upgrade after migration to silk. The Silk User Manual describes how to change to a newer version of PHP. Those upgrading past PHP 5.3 will likely need to change how they use WebDB MySQL databases, as described in the overview of zoo-to-silk migration.

Please note the following dates:

• January 9, 2019PHP on zoo has been disabled for all sites not requiring a time extension.
• March 15, 2019PHP on zoo will be disabled for all sites.
• May 24, 2019PHP 5.3 support on silk hosting will end.
